- 1919 Founding of a Commission in charge of the preparation
of a project of constitution of the National Research Council. Chairman:
Vito Volterra.
- 1923 The National Research Council, founded as moral body
on November 18, becomes member of the International Research Council,
with offices in Brussels.
- 1924 12 January. First meeting of the newborn CNR at the
National Academy of the Lincei.
- 1927-1933 CNR organizing Decrees: CNR becomes a body dependent
on the Government; its main task is the creation of a link and the
coordination between productive and industrial activities on one hand
and scientific research on the other hand.
- 1937 First consolidation act of the National Research Council.
- 1945 CNR is incorporated and becomes a public body supervised
by the government, with tasks of technical and scientific consultancy
and coordination.
- 1946 Reform of CNR National Consulting Committees.
- 1961 First expression of the "coordinated firms"
which will then become the Special Projects.
- 1963 Reform of CNR National Committees with the introduction
of classical and social subjects.
The National Committees become eleven from seven.
- 1975 Start of eighteen Targeted Projects of first generation.
- 1978 Start of 11 Targeted Projects of second generation.
- 1987 Start of 15 Targeted Projects of third generation.
- 1998 Reform of the National Research System through Legislative
Decree 204.
- 1999 CNR reform: legislative decree No. 19 of 30 January
confirming CNR central role within the framework of the National Research
System.
- 2003 CNR reform: legislative decree No. 127 of 4 June strengthening
the body strategic role within the framework of the National Research
System and confirming its multidisciplinary function.
